ASPIRING LEADERS ACADEMY
About Aspiring Leaders Academy
The Aspiring Leaders Academy serves participants in the Northeast Florida region and is delivered as a one-year
leadership development program designed to recruit, train, support, and retain high quality leaders who will be
able to serve as instructional leaders, increase student achievement, and close the achievement gap.
This Academy provides professional learning for participants who already have a master’s degree in Educational
Leadership or other field. Successful participants will receive Florida Educational Leadership Certification and
support to pass the Florida Educational Leadership Exam (FELE) if they have not already done so.
This program is for classroom and resource teachers, instructional coaches, counselors, and eligible district staff
who currently hold certification in Educational Leadership or those with a master’s degree in a field other than
Educational Leadership and desire to be placed on a district’s Assistant Principal Eligibility List/Candidate Pool.
Selection Criteria
- A master’s degree with certification in Educational Leadership and a passing score on the FELE or a master’s degree in a field other than Educational Leadership
- A minimum of three years of satisfactory teaching experience
- A passing score on the Principal Insight (if appropriate for your district)
- Two letters of recommendation (one must be from current principal or supervisor)
- A completed application
- Passing scores on the “On Demand” and “Narrative Writing” exercises
- Successful completion of an oral interview
- Ability to commit one full year to the program
Goals
- Prepare candidates with the critical leadership standards, core values, knowledge, and skills that all leaders
must possess as schools move from change to sustainability
- Prepare candidates for placement on the Assistant Principal Eligibility List and/or in the district’s Candidate
Pool
- Grant Educational Leadership Certification for those holding a master’s degree in a field other than Educational Leadership
Who Should Apply?
Classroom and Resource Teachers, Instructional Coaches, Counselors, and eligible district staff who currently hold certification in Educational Leadership or those with a Masters Degree in a field other than Educational Leadership.
Individuals from Duval and all surrounding counties are encouraged to apply. A fee will be charged to non-DCPS employees upon acceptance into this program.
