About ESOL
Teachers, administrators and guidance counselors develop a better understanding of the policies, instructional practices and accommodations required to meet the educational needs of our growing number of English Language Learners (ELLs). The focus of the professional development activities are research-based theory and practice based on the ESOL Performance Standards and Competencies. The knowledge of culture, language learning, methodologies, best practices, critical thinking and problem solving skills become the basis for effective differentiated lesson planning for ELLs.
The Schultz Center has partnered with Duval County Public Schools to develop and deliver online ESOL courses that meet the state of Florida requirements for ESOL professional development.
ESOL Endorsement
The Schultz Center offers all mandated State of Florida ESOL courses to meet the requirements for teachers of ELLs. Included are the five 60 hour courses needed to complete the 300 hours ESOL Endorsement. These courses are offered online as well as in face to face formats, and include:
- Testing and Evaluation (Formerly Empowering ESOL Teachers)
- Cross-cultural Communication
- Methods of Teaching ESOL
- Applied Linguistics
- ESOL Curriculum and Materials Development
