Foundations in Elementary Literacy/101
This eight-day course is designed to help teachers: unpack and use the new Florida Sunshine State Reading and Writing Standards to plan and deliver explicit literacy instruction; determine how whole group, small group and individual conferencing allows for differentiation; and how to plan for progress monitoring and responsive intervention. Participants enrolled in this course will gain knowledge of how to deliver literacy instruction, using current research-proven practices within a Readers and Writers Workshop model.

Elementary Reading Academy
This Academy is designed for teachers who have completed Literacy 101 and is designed to develop school literacy leaders. Participants should be skilled in the workshop model and have deep knowledge of the new Florida Reading and Writing Standards. The 5 sessions of the Academy will provide a deeper understanding of the reading process for teachers who wish to improve student achievement through expanding their own expertise in content and the delivery of literacy instruction. The participants will be involved in live video streaming for classroom observations, text based inquiry, and sharing best practices.

Elementary Reading/Writing Courses
These one or two day courses are intended to provide elementary teachers with a deeper understanding of best practices in reading and writing. The focus will be on developmentally appropriate characteristics and strategies in reading and writing across genres. Emphasis will be placed on: Guided Reading, Re-telling and Running Records – with Rigor and Differentiated Instruction embedded.

FCAT Topics
Learn to enhance student achievement on the FCAT. This session will focus on the analysis and discussion of the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards within the reading curriculum for grades 3-5.Teachers will learn FCAT item specifications, cognitive complexity classifications, Webb’s Depth of Knowledge, and the skills and strategies that promote academic success.

Complex Process of Reading (CPR)
This course focuses on the reading process and on ways teachers can help elementary-age children acquire, expand, and deepen their ability to process texts effectively. The overarching goal is to help teachers understand the complex processing systems related to effective reading and develop a repertoire of instructional approaches that support the development of these processing systems. Developing fluency in reading, expanding vocabulary, and learning to talk and write about reading will also be emphasized.
