About Mathematics
Mathematics professional development was created to support the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and National Staff Development principles and standards. The mathematics courses were developed to increase math fluency in teachers and students.
Mathematics professional development fosters a collaborative culture that increases teacher knowledge, enhances instructional practice, and improves student learning through inquiry based analysis of classroom instruction. The Mathematics professional development gives teachers the opportunity to gain “best practice” knowledge through authentic learning communities and ownership of their own continuing education.
Mathematics courses are designed for teachers of mathematics, school instructional coaches, and school mathematics coaches and consist of:
- Elementary Mathematics 101
- Mathematics Content for the Elementary Teacher
- Secondary Mathematics 101 (grades 6th and 7th)
- College Preparatory Mathematics (Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra II)
- FCAT Topics
- Academy of Mathematics
Goals
- Provide training that shifts school cultures from isolation to collaboration
- Engage teachers early in their professional learning
- Provide the content, methods, and strategies used in teaching the district adopted curriculum
- Analysis and discussion of Sunshine State Standards within the mathematics curriculum
- Promote student achievement on FCAT
